Southern Manatee has
been saving lives and property since 1990 as a combined merger of
the Oneco-Tallavast Fire department and the Samoset Fire
Department. The department currently has 70 firefighters and 10
emergency vehicles to respond to the districts 5000+ calls per
year. Those calls currently include residential and commercial
fires, brush fires, auto accidents, emergency medicals calls,
hazardous materials incidents, and natural disasters.
Five fire stations house
personnel and equipment. which are responsible for emergency
response in the districts 36- square mile area with a population of
50000 people.
Southern Manatee holds a
Class 3 rating from the Insurance Service Office (ISO).
Southern Manatee Fire &
Rescue district protects the largest industrial area in Manatee
County. The total value of commercial and residential properties
protected is $3,000,000,000+.
Southern Manatee also
pursues an aggressive fire prevention program that involves public
education, plans review, building inspections, and fire code
enforcement .
